Rick paused to think, his expression all wise and thoughful. He tapped his chin with his finger until he just shrugged and replied to Riley. "Hmm, I guess that's just every kid's ambition. To get a different set of parents. I mean, I'd rather have parents who paid more attention to their own lives rather than mine, but I'm sure some kid out there would rather have parents that pay more attention to them because they feel neglected or something. It's like we're never supposed to be fully satisfied with our parents the way our parents can never be fully satisfied with their children. It's how families work. But something tells me, and this is going to sound incredibly cheesy," Rick flashed a grin at Riley, "but something tells me it wouldn't work out any other way, you know? Like if my parents were any different, I still wouldn't be happy with them and I'd probably end up overdosing on heroin in the back alley with Tom the Toothless," Rick laughed uneasily. "So I guess I have to be thankful that my parents cared, because if they didn't, nobody would...I mean, I'm messed up enough as it is..."
Rick paused again, but his deep, contemplative thoughts on family were interrupted by the robotic and equally annoying beeping of his watch which signaled to him that he had fifteen minutes to get across campus so he wouldn't be late to his next class. Rick had set it because well, let's be honest - there was no way he'd be able to remember it on his own.
Rick looked miserably at Riley in a way that signaled that he deeply regretted that he had to go and that their talk was in no way over. "I guess I have to go, Chameleon," Rick grinned, wanting to ruffle Riley's hair but he resisted, because they hardly knew each other that well...even though they'd just spent over an hour and a half talking.

"Eh, whatever. You're right, I'm never around my parents, really. I think it's normal for kids to hate their parents or hate what they do, that is. A lot of people like their parents though. I could never be nice to my mom, not once." Hearing the beeper, Riley looked to Rick, hoping he wouldn't have to go. She was having fun talking to him, at least she met someone new. "Leaving already? Man, I was hoping I wouldn't have to go to class." She said, standing up and grabbing her hot chocolate. She would have to toss it, it was cold and she was no longer thirsty. "Well...uh, see you around, I suppose." She had nothing else to say, and she smiled slightly at Rick and looked around for a trashcan, hoping to stall so she wouldn't have to go to class.

Rick laughed at Riley's comment, and there was a large grin on his face afterwards. "Sorry Chameleon, some of us actually want to learn at college," Rick teased, although that was the farthest thing from his mind right now. He wouldn't have minded skipping his class to talk to Riley a bit longer, but he knew if he tried, his parents would hear about it. Somehow. His parents were just super-sneaking, prying adults that way and it kind of scared him in a way that nothing else could. It's not that he was scared that he would get in trouble (he hardly ever got into "trouble" with his parents. He'd only been grounded a total of one time. Yeah. Pretty smooth). It was that he was scared he'd get pulled out of CHU so early. He'd only been there for about two weeks. Getting pulled out would be distressing and cause a huge stunt in his social growth and status. He just knew these things, so it was better not to question them at all.
"Yeah, I'll definitely see you around," Rick smiled, waving at Riley one last time before he sprinted off for one of those huge buildings whose name he would laugh at for all but 000.3 seconds and then go to his class on the first floor and be bored out of his mind. Or something along those lines.
