When Croy first raised his hand, Rick furrowed his eyebrows, not sure what the tricky boy was up to, but when Croy started rubbing his nose, a triumphant smirk spread across Rick's lips. He knew exactly what Croy was thinking of. Rick's shoulder still stung if he rolled it a certain way. Rick knew that fight didn't end too well for either of them, but he was still glad to see Croy thinking of it.
But his triumph didn't last long. Croy and Victoria were awfully touchy-feely. Rick knew the whole distant relatives thing wouldn't explain it, so that left him with only one other thought on their relationship. He wanted to gag himself. Single, huh Vicky? Single my arse, Rick thought angrily. He was more angry about the fact that Victoria didn't tell him rather than her dating someone. And he was definitely bitter about that person being Croy. But he decided not to let them see him sweat. Rick Hazel was not a weak man. So instead of letting the two see how cross he was, Rick turned around and faced the direction that Nattalie had just walked off in.
WHOA! What?! Rick looked frantically at Nattalie, although she couldn't see him because her back was still turned to him. How could she just desert him with these people? But then he saw who she was talking with. Oh. Riley. Well, I guess that's a good reason, Rick shrugged to himself, looking over his shoulder at the two lovebirds. He raised an eyebrow and then turned back towards Nattalie and Riley.
The choice was too easy.
Leaving Croy and Victoria to talk, Rick rushed over to where Nattalie and Riley were standing. "Hi Riley!" Rick practically blurted out, waving enthusiastically at his new friend. She was definitely one of the cooler people at CHU. Rick then flashed a charming smile at Nattalie, but all too soon because he then noticed that a slow song was playing. He shot a look at Mrs. Vanderbilt, but she was eating and was far from the stereo, so he just guessed that the song was in one of her tapes. Still...
Rick looked up cautiously and gave a relieved sigh. At least there's no mistletoe above my head. That would just make everything perfect, he thought sarcastically, wanting to roll his eyes. Instead...
"So Nattalie, how about that dance?" Rick grinned, holding out his hand.

OOC: I'm jumping in, if you don't mind.
Nattalie almost jumped when Rick appeared out of nowhere. Almost. She turned, smiling at Rick. "I see you couldn't take much more of Croy," she said, almost frowning. But she replaced the frown with a smile faster than you could say "Cheese Puffs".
She looked up when Rick did, and smiled when he noticed what he was looking for. "Sorry Rick, there's no mistletoe here," she said, grinning. But, she'd have liked the mistletoe. "Oh well", she thought with a sigh.
She turned as Rick spoke to her. Had he asked her to dance? She nodded, and placed her hand in his. She'd follow him to where he'd like to dance, as long as it wasn't near the teachers, or Mrs. V.

Riley spotted her childhood friend, Nattalie in a flash and she waved back at her. She noticed Rick too and wondered if him and Nattalie were here together or something. Rick was cool, one of her new friends here at CHU who was a grade above her. "I'm not doing much, just hanging. I didn't come with anyone. Who would I come with anyways?' She replied to Nattalie's questions. "Oh yes, I'm quite fancy today aren't I?" Riley chuckled at her own words. When Rick came over to the two, she shot a small smile to him. Hearing Nattalie's remark about the Mistletoe, she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at the two. "If you two are going to do that kissy kissy nasty stuff, then I'm leaving you." Her eyebrow was still raised but when she noticed the two were about to dance, she knew she wouldn't have to move. Now, if she could find some beer around here maybe she could be out there dancing. Looking at all the different people, she tried to find some people she recognized, a few, but they weren't people she knew that well. She was debating whether to stay or not, she could think of 10 things she could be doing and would rather be doing then what she was doing at this party, moping.

Holly noticed that Jason went to the table farthest away from the troublesome students and she was thankful and thought that he was thoughtful to do so. Holly sat down and almost immediately began to eat, not stuffing her mouth (like she'd seen people do at formal parties - uuch), but taking smallish, dainty bites like a civilized woman. Not a woman who was planning on starving herself, no, but a woman who had manners. Because that was just what Holly was.
After she had chewed, swallowed and done the whole shindig, Holly turned to talk to Jason again. "You're from England, right?" Holly asked, vaguely remembering this. "Well, why did you come all the way out here to teach if you don't mind me asking? If it's something too personal, I understand, but I'm curious," Holly said, because she was, but she understood the words "personal space." She was just trying to make small chat with Jason and then maybe they could get into a real conversation or something. He seemed to be enjoyable company. But Holly would have to keep her eye on the clock (because she'd taken off her watch for the night). She didn't want to be late for her husband.

Jason rolled one of the pieces of turkey into a small cylinder, tearing off a bite and popping it into his mouth. He sighed when she asked why he'd moved from England to here, looking down at his plate, he decided he wouldn't let it affect him. My parents were envolved in a drive-by homicide near here. His voice was soft, and he watched Holly's face for any sign of emotion. I felt obligated to be near them again, so I came looking for a piece of them here. He paused, thinking about Maria, That, and I was enrolled here when they were killed. I just couldn't turn down the fact that I was looking foreward to moving here. He could remember every detail about his college education, like the summer he'd spent before getting a full ride scholership due to the fact he was paying for everything himself.
He looked down at the assortment of food that he had on his little plate and broke off another piece of cookie, studying it almost before eating it. He missed his parents every day, but he knew that they would be proud of the fact that he had made it through everything and still kept in contact with Maria and her fiance and was now teaching at the school that he'd seen as a sanctuary for so long. A song that he knew well came over the speakers, a Fall Out Boy song...Thnks Fr Th Mmrs. It fit his thoughts well, some of his memories of his parents weren't all that great, but they had still been there for him when he needed them to be.

Post by Samuel Wallace on Dec 29, 2007 0:48:39 GMT -5
Samuel rubbed his eyes and blinked then looked away in the direction of the clock. Only two hours were left before the Holiday Party, the Headmistress Holly Vanderbilt hosted, starts. But Samuel had a lot of work to do and instead of going to the mall and get him something nice to wear for the party, he had spent almost the whole day since 7 am, working on the next term’s lessons and organizing files in his office. An hour and half later, Professor Wallace stood on his feet and grabbed his cell phones and keys then left his office back to his residence. He had decided to attend Ms.Vanderbilt’s party and to come back to his office in the morning to finish up what he had started.
Back in his residence, Sam took a shower to refresh himself and began to get dressed. He usually hated dressing up for occasions and he yet had no idea how other staff members will be dressing up for the party. So he decided to leave the suit and tie for some other time and wear whatever that looked nice yet comfortable. Running his fingers through his soft light brown hair, Sam exited his residence dressed a black vest he left unbuttoned, a white dress shirt, blue denim jeans and black polished shoes.
If there was any month Samuel didn’t enjoy, it would be December. Because every year, the young male would make a wish to Santa, to bring him back his unknown father but it seemed always that Santa never makes the wish come true. Sam would spend his Christmas holiday with his dear mom and stepfather but something always was missing. Yet, a lot of other people loved Christmas and everything about it and Sam wished he felt the same way, to finally express his pure joy just like the others.
Later, the young Professor stood at the entrance of the ballroom’s doubled doors and licked his lips, a little nervous to walk in. He was still the new professor in Crescent Hill university and he didn’t know many people around, nor even his own students yet. He arrived only three days ago, so that was pretty much a good reason and excuse. Letting his eyes wander onto the legs of the girls who passed him by a second ago, Samuel finally worked up his nerves and decided to walk in after two groups of students. Scanning the ballroom for a bit, the male put a smile on his lips and looked at the mass of people already there. He poured himself a glass of cocktail and looked around once more, hoping to see Holly Vanderbilt somewhere because he didn't get the chance yet to talk to her and just thought tonight was going to be right moment, if not some other day. And then he saw her but she wasn't alone. A bonus, because the one that gave the Head company was another staff member.
Everything was beautiful around him. From the decorations, the food, to the beautiful stunning looking students. Sam was totally and already blown away from the appearance. 'Good evening' He began as he smiled softly, at both Jason Deen and Mrs. Vanderbilt. 'I hope I am not interrupting your conversation' He added and bit softly on the corner of his bottom lip, hazel eyes traveling from the male to the female.

Katelina walked into the hall hugging the wall very closely. She had one hand wrapped around the elbow of her other arm. She was wearing a spaghetti strap red cocktail dress and was suddenly wishing that she had worn black or beige. Red was just too conspicuous for melting into the scenery. She didn't know anyone here and spoke english just well enough to be called barely fluent. She stood apart from all the other commotion and watched the people float by as they danced around each other. She looked to all the faces and wished for once that she had made more of an effort to get to know her roomates.

Holly was pretty shocked to hear this news. She knew the surface details about her staff and her students, but when they delved into their pasts...things got complicated. Holly did like being personal with people, but she didn't like charging into everyone's personal lives nor have everyone barge into hers. But she would've never imagined this in years.
"Oh wow, Jason! I-I...I don't know what to say. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you find...or have found what you're looking for. I don't think I can truly understand -" Holly was about to continue on, trying her best to offer her sympathy, but not look like she pitied him. Because to be honest, she didn't. Holly Vanderbilt didn't pity people, nor did she feel sorry for them. She might feel sad because of what happened to somebody and do the typical "I'm sorry," speech, but she was never a pitying kind of person.
Either way, Holly was interrupted by another member of the staff, Samuel Wallace. She greeted him with a polite smile, somewhat irritated by the fact that she was the only staff member dressed up extremely formally. Then again, she was doing this for her husband -
Holly glanced at her watch, sighing with relief before she answered Samuel. "Oh no, you didn't interrupt anything," Holly said, smiling at Jason in hopes that he'd agree with her. It was just too rude to say, oh yeah, you kind of did; sorry! "Please, sit down," Holly gestured to another seat beside her. "How's your evening been, Sam?"
